Third Party Data Sources
Effectively integrating multiple third-party data sources.

A growing therapeutics company utilizes 5 different CROs to provide their assay data. This promises a high level of throughput and flexibility, creating a cost-effective research pipeline and the ability to better match market conditions, trends and direction.

However, the CROs each have their own formats for providing the assay data, and two of them provide data in a loosely-structured format that is prone to unannounced changes. In addition, it is common for more than one CRO to provide data on any given project.

Needless to say, organizing, integrating and harmonizing those data streams has become a serious choke point for the company because it is a completely manual task. Leadership identified the “organization and consolidation of CRO data” as a “primary limiting factor” in screening their target pipeline, capitalizing on new opportunities, and reversing an upward trend in Data Analysis employee turnover.

Snthesis participated in a thorough overhaul of their data management strategy. This would accomplish 6 key goals in a closely structured timeline:

  • Create a Cloud Migration strategy to reduce the load on the internal IT staff, increase uptime through use of a world leader in Cloud Services, enable an automated data integration environment, and enable more timely upgrades, maintenance and troubleshooting of the Snthesis Bio Platform.

  • Automate the ingestion and harmonization of the more loosely structured, variable layout data first, as this was the biggest pain point. Once harmonized, this data continued to flow to existing analysis workflows via API integration while the next phase unfolded.

  • Consolidate and harmonize all CRO data into one data stream, allowing the Bio platform to automatically identify sources of mislabeled or incomplete data and quantify data quality and harmonization effort for each CRO.

  • Provide training to each CRO to reduce data errors, then hand off management of the data ingestion process to that CRO, dramatically reducing time-consuming manual processes.

  • Once all incoming CRO Data was set up for automated ingestion and harmonization into Snthesis Bio, the internal data flow was updated to fully utilize the Cloud environment, and to eliminate manual processes as well as duplication of effort. The end result is a reduction of 60% in the time between a CRO providing data and the ability to begin analysis of that data. In addition, CRO output is reviewed automatically, giving provable analytics to hold each CRO accountable for the completeness and accuracy of their output in line with contractual obligations.

In addition to the time and labor savings, accuracy of results is now verified and quantifiably measured, leading to better and faster new product proposals, and improving time-to-value for their research data by nearly 70%.

All the data in the world is limited in advancing science if it’s mis-matched or takes too long to integrate. Snthesis Bio automates this process, saving human intervention for the errors and anomalies.
